What Should I Bring to My Plastic Surgery Consultation?

One of the most common questions I’m asked is: “What should I bring to my appointment?”
Being prepared helps us make the most of our time together and ensures you receive clear, personalised advice. Here’s a simple guide to what to bring to your consultation at The Clinic Plastic Surgery.
Bring a Referral From Your Doctor
Yes — a referral is important and essential.
We require all patients, both cosmetic and reconstructive, to bring a referral from their GP or medical specialist. This is important for several reasons:
- It allows you to be eligible for a Medicare rebate for your consultation
- It provides valuable insight into your medical background
- It helps ensure clear communication and continuity of care between your healthcare providers
Having this information upfront allows me to give you the most accurate and appropriate advice.
Prepare Your Medical Information
In addition to your referral, please bring details of your medical history, including:
- A list of current medications
- Any allergies
- Previous surgeries
- Relevant medical conditions
If you’ve had investigations related to your concern—such as mammograms, ultrasounds, CT scans, or MRIs—bring those along as well. These can be very helpful in guiding our discussion and planning..
Bring Inspiration or Reference Photos (If You Have Them)
If you have photos that represent your goals, feel free to bring them.
These might include:
- Breast shape or size examples
- Tummy tuck or body contouring outcomes
- General aesthetic preferences
Inspiration photos are not about copying someone else’s result, but they help us communicate clearly and make sure we’re aligned on what you’re hoping to achieve.
Consider Bringing a Support Person
You are welcome to bring a trusted friend, partner, or family member to your consultation.
Many patients find it helpful to have:
- Emotional support
- Another set of ears when discussing options, risks, and recovery
- Someone to help remember important details
This is entirely optional, but always encouraged if it makes you feel more comfortable.
Bring Any Previous Surgical Records and Your Questions
If you’ve had prior plastic surgery or body contouring procedures, bring along any notes, reports, or operative recordsyou have available.
It’s also a great idea to:
- Write down any questions or concerns ahead of time
- Bring a list so nothing gets forgotten during the appointment
There’s no such thing as a silly question — my role is to ensure you feel informed and confident.
Final Thoughts
Coming prepared to your plastic surgery consultation allows us to use our time effectively and focus on what matters most: your goals, your safety, and the best possible outcome for you.
My aim is always to provide clear, honest advice so you can make decisions with confidence.
If you have any questions before your appointment, our team is always happy to help — just get in touch.
I look forward to meeting you at The Clinic Plastic Surgery.
